Fostering the emergence of a life-affirming future out of the deteriorating chaos of our times.

The dominant
world order is unravelling
taking with it the illusion of progress that has caused unprecedented inequality, ecological degradation, and systemic violence.
A different world is not only possible,
but already exists at the margins and is beginning to take root.
We are devoted to nurturing these shoots.

Aligned with many others who are acting accordingly, we have formed the Ecocivilization Coalition to act as transformation catalyst.
Our aim is to foster an alternative cohering narrative and act as connective tissue to help catalyze the movement for change, facilitating the emergence of a diversified, life-affirming planetary future: an ecocivilization.

The Dominant World System:
Worldview of Separation
The dominant world system arises from a worldview of separation, seeing humans as separate from and superior to non-human nature, and in a state of competition with each other.
This manifests in principles of extraction and exploitation that elevate wealth accumulation as the preeminent value.
An Ecocivilization: Worldview of Deep Interrelatedness
An Ecocivilization would, by contrast, be based on a worldview of deep interrelatedness, seeing people as part of community, humans as an integral part of the natural world, and human activities always embedded within larger systems.

We use the singular form of the word civilization, but envision a...
Pluriversal Ecocivilization:
A planetary community of many cultures, each with its own unique ways of knowing and being, but united by a core value of reverence for the living Earth.

Our dream of the world we want is shared by millions
The multiple strands of this vision include Indigenous traditions such as buen vivir and ubuntu, insights from ecological economics and commons theory, and principles from the permaculture, Transition Towns, post-growth, degrowth, and agroecology movements.
The vision reflects the spiritual underpinnings of Deep Ecology, engaged Buddhism, Gandhian swaraj, and Christian ecotheology, among others.

It embraces ideas from groupings such as anti-globalization, eco-socialist, social justice, LGBTQ rights, and Rights of Nature movements.
"The EcoCiv Coalition offers real hope, finally, for bringing about a fusion of forces, a movement of movements."
Gus Speth, Advisory Partner

Our aim is to be the connective tissue
for the multiple groups already working toward a life-enhancing
planetary future.

For an organism, the role of connective tissue might be to:
Empower the organism to act on its environment to modify it;
Enable the organism to coordinate itself; and
Send nourishment where it’s most needed.
This roughly corresponds to our three primary strategies:
